Profile

                  The Animal Husbandry Department, Tirupati, functions as a key wing of the Government of Andhra Pradesh under the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries. The department is dedicated to the comprehensive development of the livestock sector, ensuring both animal health and rural economic growth through structured veterinary services, disease control programs, and productivity enhancement initiatives.

Organization Structure

Scheme/activities/action plan

1. Veterinary Health Services

• Operation of Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratories at Constituency level, Area Veterinary Hospitals, Veterinary Dispensaries, Rural Livestock, Raithu Seva Kendralu across all mandals.
• Deployment of Mobile Veterinary Units (1962 Call Services) for remote areas.

2. Disease Control and Vaccination

• Regular vaccination drives for Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), Brucellosis, ET, HS, and other endemic diseases.
• Active participation in NADRS (National Animal Disease Reporting System) and NADCP (National Animal Disease Control Programme).

3. Reproductive and Breeding Services

• Implementation of Artificial Insemination (AI) using frozen semen from superior breeds.
• Breed improvement through Rashtriya Gokul Mission, Progeny Testing, and Pedigree Selection programs.
• Oestrus Synchronization programme is being implemented in Naravaripalli cluster covering 1000 non pregnant animals based on household survey

4. Extension and Farmer Support

• Conduct of animal health camps, fertility management camps, and awareness programs on scientific livestock management.
• Training programs for women self-help groups (SHGs) and livestock farmers on fodder cultivation, clean milk production, and scientific animal husbandry practices.

5. Mini Gokulams

• Construction of Animal shelters (Cattle/ Sheep & Goat/ Poultry) under MGNREGS.

6. Welfare and Schemes Implementation

• Execution of central and state schemes such as:
  1. National Livestock Mission (NLM)
  2. Livestock Insurance Scheme
  3. Inputs supply (Feed, TMR, Fodder seed, Chaffcutter) on subsidy basis
  4. Pasu Arogya Sibhiralu health camps
  5. Water Troughs constructed in all villages across the district to overcome water shortage during summer seasons under MGNREGS
  6. Perinneal fodder cultivation under MGNREGS in all villages of the district
