Profile
- The Department of Mines and Geology is entrusted with both promotional and regulatory functions for overall development of Mineral Sector and collection of mineral revenue to the State Exchequer.
- In Andhra Pradesh State under the control of Director of Mines & Geology oversee the functions of receipt & processing of Mineral Concession applications, grant of leases for Minor Minerals approval of Mine Plans, Inspection of Mines, curbing of illicit Mining and Transportation, Vigilance, monitoring of Mineral Production, Survey & Demarcation of areas. Mineral Revenue Collection, Mineral Investigations & explorations and dissemination of Mineral information.

Schemes
The PMKKKY Scheme, in its guidelines defines the nature of works that can be taken up by DMFs from the funds that mining companies legally provide. The scheme makes a distinction between ‘High Priority Areas’ and ‘Other Priority Areas. It is mandated that at least 60% of DMF funds are to be utilized towards High Priority Areas and up to 40% of the funds are to be utilized towards Other Priority Areas.
Simultaneously, State Government by including the PMKKKY guidelines has notified AP DMF Rules vide G.O.Ms.No.36 dt 14.03.2016 and provided directions in terms of DMF fund utilization. Subsequently, the Government vide G.O.Ms.No.46, dt:06-04-2016 Ind, Comm (M.II) Dept., has amended the rule duly including the District Level Programme Manager / Officer of Smart Andhra Pradesh Foundation (SAPF) as member Trust.

- In-charge of the District office.
- Collection of Mineral Revenue.
- Enforcement of Permit System through Online.
- Inspection of working and non-working mines and quarries as per Act and Rules.
- Inspection of Mineral Based Industries.
- Submission of proposals for collection of Mineral Revenue Arrears under R.R. Act.
- Regulation of sand mining in the District.
- Identification of sand reaches in the District along with Line Department viz. Revenue, Irrigation, Ground Water, Rural Water Supply and Forest Department.
- Identification and Survey & Inspection of Mineral Blocks for e-Auction.
- Finalization of Mineral Revenue Assessments and preparation of Demand Collection Balance (DCB) in every year.
- Scrutiny on Vigilance activities by the Technical Personnel.
- Right to Information Act 2005
- Inspection at Mineral consuming works, irrigation works, Engineering Works collection at data regarding deduction of Seigniorage Fee from the work bills of the Government Contractors by Government Engineering Departments.
- Proposals will be submitted to the higher authority to conduct auction for identified mineral blocks.
- Periodical inspections of Mines and Quarries.
- Control and arrest of illicit quarrying / mining and transportation of Minerals.
