Profile

                 The Roads and Buildings Department plays a predominant role to cater the needs of the Public. The State of Andhra Pradesh has an extensive road network of 45,317 kms with various types of roads such as National Highways, State Highway roads and Major District Roads.  The Main function of the R&B Department in Andhra Pradesh is to Construct and Maintain the State’s road net work including National Highways,  State Highways, Major District Roads and other road types.  The department also manages the Construction and Maintenance of bridges, culverts and judicial buildings and other buildings.  This department is responsible for formation and construction of new roads,  patching, strengthening and maintaining roads under various schemes including Periodical maintenance, urgent repairs, special Repairs and various Government and external funding schemes like NABARD, CRF, APRDF, APRDC, EAP, SH & MDRs.  This department also erects centreline markings, edge line markings and zebra cross lines, sign boards and perform road Safety and Traffic management.  This department also having Electrical wing for electrification of  building works which are taken up by this department including its annual maintenance.  Further, this office is having Quality Control wing  for proper vigilance on the entire works taken up by this department. This department may conduct road safety audit to identify deficiencies and black spots on roads from time to time. Showing collaborative efforts, this department works with other agencies like Panchayat Raj Department, N.H.A.I to manage different categories of roads.

              This department is headed by Two Engineer-in-Chief’s and 06 Chief Engineers with head quarters at Vijayawada.

             As far as the District R&B Engineering Office, Tirupati concern, this office is  opened on  04-04-2022 due to newly formed districts. This office is having two divisions namely  (R&B) Division, Tirupati and (R&B) Division, Gudur. The total organization chart of these office is herewith appended separately.

             As the Administrative Powers are  to be received from the Government,  all administrative matters in respect of staff and technical matters in respect of works are being continued with the erstwhile districts. However, the remaining part of work like preparation of review meeting particulars at all levels and attending review meeting with the District Collector and the meetings conducted by the VIP’s during their visits by obtaining information from the respective divisions.

            The Total length of roads comes under the jurisdiction of this office is 2588.658 Kms. In which  the length of State High Way roads (SH) is 705.459 Kms and the length of Major District roads (MDRs) is 1785.549 Kms.and the remaining roads is 97.65 Kms. In addition to the above roads, the length of National Highway roads (NH)  is 415.00 Kms.

           Construction and Maintenance of all categories of Roads, such as Construction of HLBs, ROBs, RUBs, Causeways, Formation of New Roads, and Construction and Maintenance of Government buildings, which are taken up under various schemes i.e. CRF, NDB, NABARD, SR Programs, Periodical renewals, SDMF, MP Lads, Mineral cess, and etc..  with regard to action plan, the Executive Engineers of Tirupati & Gudur have submitted various proposals for improvements of roads in Tirupati District under constituency vision action plan.
